BEGINNER PROGRAMS

Field Trips

Each year, many Lower Mainland preschools and daycares bring their children to Carillon for a fun and interesting demonstration class. The 45-minute class consists of singing, stories, movement and the use of rhythm instruments. It is a great outing for the children, which often leads to an interest in music lessons.

Carillon RED Course 4 - 5 year olds

A progressive three-year program which emphasis ear training and uses the keyboard as the primary tool. Each weekly one-hour class develops rhythm, melody, ear training and harmony through singing, keyboard work and rhythm ensembles. Music notation and theory are also taught through games and activities. Parental attendance and involvement facilitate the student's progress. Performance opportunities enhance this program.

Carillon Yellow Course  6 - 7 year olds

A two year program emphasizing keyboard development and note-reading skills. Each weekly one-hour class develops rhythm, melody, ear-training and harmony through singing, keyboard work and rhythm ensembles. Music notation and theory are also taught through games and activities. Performance opportunities enhance this program. Parental attendance and involvement facilitate the student's progress.

Carillon Blue Course  8 - 12 year olds

This program gives children a broad musical foundation on which they can build. The course involves a 1-hour class each week. Throughout this program, the students develop skills in ear-training, note reading, rhythm, performance, technique, theory, chording, composition, improvisation and transposition. A variety of motivational classroom activities create an enjoyable and productive learning atmosphere for the children. A mixture of Classical, Pop, Blues and Jazz styles (emphasizing chording) provides a well-rounded musical education.

8 Week Beginner Course for Children - 8 - 12 year olds

This course is designed to give beginning students a taste of piano lessons so that they can decide if this is an area which they would like to pursue. One fee covers eight 1-hour lessons, all materials and a keyboard on which to practice in the home. Children have fun and learn to play at the same time with the option of continuing in our on-going lessons.
